No better way to start spring than with colorful tulips coming up after a chilly Oregon winter, adds immediate  color to a mostly dormant garden. Always exciting to see them come up year after year and open early with bright colors.

*Get your bulbs planted for next year before the frost hits in fall

One of my personal favorites this year is my "Candle Stick Larkspur" (Delphinium) grows to be 3-5' has delicate purple & blue flowers, the plant is beautiful even when not in bloom.Does well in full sun or in shade.

I have currently have plenty of seeds available in a lighter purple as seen in this picture, and in a darker purple as well. I started all of mine from seed, they are easy to grow, it is suggested seeds be planted in fall for flowers in spring.

$ 2.25 per packet (Approximately 65 seeds per packet)

This year I have white, light blue, blue and purple

Larkspur-candle stick (Delphinium) Perennial

$ 4.95 USD

Plant seeds in spring, (possibility if planted in spring they may not bloom till following summer) prefer light shade or sun, rich soil & require a winter dormancy; mark where you planted them. Blue or purple tall elegant flowers blooming from late spring all through summer-with attractive foliage even when not in bloom.

$2.25 per packet  (approximately 65+ seeds)

 ($4.95 price includes S&H fees)

Echinacea

A very hardy attractive plant, looks stunning and adds color to any yard, really prefers full sun or light shade & good soil. Plant these Echinacea seeds at the beginning of spring-spaced 18" apart. This plant blooms at the end of spring and continues to bloom well into summer.

Echinacea seeds available (purple only as seen above)

 Pink Poppy

These ruffly pink poppy's seem to come up late spring to mid summer. As you can see the flower is large and frilly, although, they seem to often only bloom for a short time, but when planted together new buds open every few days & their leaves are a nice frosty green looking good before and after blooming.

Pink Poppy seeds available now

$1.75 per 1 gram packet

Pink & purple Morning Glories~ I love these climbing flowers! Once seeds sprout out of the ground and get their first sets of leaves the send out windy stems looking to twist, climb, crawl & wrap around any and everything in their path. This plant is an extremely fast grower once it has found something to climb on, it is almost unbelievable how quickly they seem to creep up a fence line by inches almost daily! My son & i call them "magic seeds." These lovely deep purple and sometimes pink(as in this picture) flowers peek out from the big green leaves and open in early morning, closing up by afternoon and opening again in morning, making new flowers all throughout summer.

I love the Morning Glory's and have them crawling(soon to be covering) my tall fence line & have them trailing up trellis's attached to my house; although, let me warn you, they may not be for everyone, they can be what some may call a high maintenance plant due to the fact they grow fast, spread, & tend to climb up, cling to & take over what ever happens to be near by if not trained daily...In winter they die back & you have to take down the dead plant from where ever they have grown. If like me, you don't mind this task and think you will enjoy them as much as i do, then give them a try!!

Plant them in spring, water regularly & watch them grow!

(This is one of the very few plants i have that is not considered a Perennial, meaning here in Oregon it is likely that it will not come back for the next year & will require that new seeds be planted each year.)

Plenty of seeds available starting after September 2009

These wild flowers (Garillardia-also known as "Blanket Flower") have been an excellent source of cover and color since blooming started in mid spring and continues late into summer. What started as a small addition in the back ground has really become almost a main focus for the whole yard. These wild flowers are pretty, nicely colored, fill in medium size areas nicely, seem to continuously bloom almost non-stop all season; their flowers are so pretty, yet not big enough to really draw attention away from other flowers in bloom. I would have to say they have been a great addition to my yard this year.
